Reducing and Preventing Gun Violence
Gun violence is one of our most critical issues today. Gun violence is an urgent, complex, and multifaceted problem that research informs us requires evidence-based, multifaceted solutions.
What we all can agree upon is that here in Chicago, gun violence is needlessly taking lives, destroying families and taking an unmeasurable toll on communities. Gun violence must be reduced, it must be prevented, it must be ended.
And therein lies one of our most formidable challenges: how to reduce the incidence of gun violence — whether a result of mental issues, mis-directed posturing, negligence, social conflict, homicide, suicide, mass shootings, negligence or a belief that for protection, one must shoot first before getting shot…
For the August Coalition Power Breakfast, the conversation turns to gun violence prevention.
COAL is honored to host Rev. Ciera Bates-Chamberlain, Founder and Executive Director of Live Free Chicago-Live Free Illinois, Donald H. Tyler, Phd, Director of Clinical Services for Chicago CRED, Brandon Daurham and ethan ucker, Co-Founders and Co-Executive Directors of Stick Talk, and Crystal Brown, Attorney Supervisor at the Office of the Cook County Public Defender, to discuss various strategies, initiatives and efforts towards reducing and preventing gun violence.
Please join us, via zoom, for an important conversation on gun violence prevention. And please, invite a friend or young person to participate on a topic of importance to us all.
Respectfully,
COAL Board of Directors
